Help support the Presidential Initiative to Reduce Administrative Barriers to Academic Excellence
The President’s Initiative to Reduce Administrative Barriers to Academic Excellence (PIRAB) was announced by Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie in 2016 with the goal of identifying policies and practices that imposed unnecessary burdens on IU faculty and staff. The second annual report from the PIRAB working group summarizes several policy and procedural changes now in effect for 2018, while also highlighting a number of key improvement areas that the group—with active, creative and open-minded input from faculty, staff, and administrators—continues to address in seeking to enhance efficiency and accountability and ensure a culture of innovation across the university.
The latest report includes, among other items, information about the implementation of a new travel management system that will simplify travel arrangements and provide greater functionality for faculty and staff. It also outlines a hospitality policy designed to provide IU employees with greater guidance and flexibility as they incur hospitality expenditures for the purpose of promoting and furthering the mission of the university.
As work continues on these and a number of other issues, all members of the university community are invited to submit suggestions for other policies and practices that the working group should address.
